- Bruxism is a condition in which prolonged (over years) grinding (rubbing together) and clenching of teeth leads to dental problems.
- Bruxism is an unconscious act which often takes place at night, and if untreated may lead to excessive wearing of teeth surfaces, increased sensitivity of teeth to hot and cold, increased mobility of teeth (loose teeth), receding gums with exposed roots, fractured teeth, loss of teeth, and pain over the face or temples.
- The treatment may include wearing a night guard (a plastic cast over the teeth that prevents night grinding) and stress reduction (lifestyle modification, meditation, biofeed back, etc.).
