Burning pain of tongue or BMS

- Burning tongue is characterized by a constant burning sensation in the tissues of the tongue. It can involve any portion of the tongue or the mouth, including the tip of the tongue, sides of the tongue, parts of the roof of the mouth (palate), and inside the lips and cheek areas.
- BMS often affects women in their 50s and 60s more than men.
- The cause is unknown. Vitamins and mineral deficiencies, viral infections, drugs and medications, and neurological disorders all need to be considered as potential causes and ruled out.
- There are no single successful treatments.
