Metastatic Cancer

more about Metastatic Cancer

Normal

Abnormal
  • This means that cancer has spread from the primary affected organ, to a different organ, or area of the body.  There are definite patterns to metastasis.  For example, when Prostate Cancer metastasizes, typically it spreads to the bones.  Breast Cancer, on the other hand, typically metastasizes from one breast to the other, to bones, and sometimes to the brain.
  • Metastatic Cancer is more difficult to treat, but treatment options are still available and sometimes curative.  Typically, in diagnosing any type of cancer, tests are undertaken to see if it has spread.  This is known as staging. (See specific type of cancer for more details.)
