Most whiplash injuries occur as a result of sudden head or neck movements from rear-end impacts in motor vehicle accidents. Strenuous physical activities involving the neck can also cause whiplash. Sudden movements of the head involving acceleration and deceleration cause damage to the soft tissues, such as ligaments, muscle or disc.
