- A Nasal Polyp is a mass of tissue that abnormally projects out from the membrane covering the sinuses and the inside of the nose (nasal mucosa). Such polyps are associated with chronic sinus allergies and Asthma. They are also seen in some patients with Cystic Fibrosis.
- They can grow large and block the nasal passages, cause chronic rhinorrhea (runny nose) and Nasal Congestion. Mouth breathing is common in this condition, and the voice may even become nasal as a result.
- Treatment involves treating the underlying problem, and may include the use of nasal steroid sprays. Avoid prolonged use of nasal decongestants. If all fails, surgical (or laser) removal may be administered.
