BETA CAROTENE

THE BREAKDOWN
Beta Carotene plays a key role in protecting and defending white blood cells - the primary defending agents against infections and disease. Because of this, the strength of the immune system is heavily dependent on Beta Carotenes.

IN THE BODY
Antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Selenium increase the functionality of Beta Carotene. It helps with the absorption of Iron.

DAILY DOSE
10-30 mg a day of Beta Carotene should be enough to satisfy the daily amount needed to maintain a healthy system. Vitamin A usually carries with it an ample amount of Beta Carotene. When breast feeding, women should take 1300 mcg of Vitamin A every day.

OVER DOSAGE
Too much Zinc can result in loose stool, problems with the immune system, heart disease and severe vomiting.

SUPPLEMENTS:
Supplemental forms of Beta Carotene can be found in palm oil and algae, but palm oil is absorbed quicker and more effectively than algae. Synthetic forms of Beta Carotene are not as effective as natural ones, as in the case with most supplements.

WARNINGS
If you experience heart or liver disease, taking Beta Carotene will not meet your Vitamin A requirements. Also, if you are a heavy drinker or smoker, taking too much Beta Carotene may increase your risk of cancer.
