eConsultation Questions and Answers

1. How do the online consultations work?
First, set up an appointment with a doctor through our site. Then, download CUSeeMe, the software necessary to participate in an eConsult Live session (a link will be provided to you via email once you’ve made your appointment).

On the day of your appointment, 10 minutes before your scheduled time, login through the eConsult section. This will direct you to your Appointment Schedule page.

Click the "Go Chat" button next to your appointment date. The CUSeeMe software will launch, and you’ll be ready to go.

If you receive an error message, simply click OK, and you will be forwarded to the next step in the process. The software will enable you to have a text-based chat with the healthcare provider.

You will actually be able to see whom you’re chatting with.

If you do not have a web camera (which is optional), the health care professional will not be able to see you.

2. Who can participate in an eConsultation?
eConsultations may be conducted between physicians and patients, between mental health professionals and a patient, or between a physician and another health care provider (e.g., a case manager, clinical nurse practitioner or physician assistant) anywhere in the world.

Your health care provider can best serve you when the telemedicine consultations are incorporated with actual office visits.

Individuals under the age of 18 should not be using eCureMe’s telemedicine services without the consent of a parent or guardian.

A user, who is suicidal, homicidal, dissociated, demented or acutely psychotic should, under no circumstances, be using the eConsultation telemedicine services of eCureMe, and should contact the proper agencies immediately.

For more information, please read our Terms and Conditions.

3. What is the difference between the "eCureMe Physician Consultation" and "Private Physician to Private Patient" service?
eCureMe Physician Consultation:  This service allows patients to consult with one of eCureMe's staff physicians or lifestyle counselors.

To activate this feature, simply go into the list of our health care professionals and choose an available time on their schedule.

eCureMe physicians may only provide medical advice or a second opinion.

They cannot give a diagnosis, provide a referral, prescribe medication, or update your patient chart unless the following requirements are met:

    A. The physician must be licensed in the same state that you live in.
    B. A face-to-face examination must take place.
    C. Patient records must be transferred to the treating physician.

Private Physician to Private Patient: Consult with your existing physician, or any other physician, using eConsult Live. Once you have set up an appointment, we will contact your physician to determine his/her availability and interest in participating in an eConsultation session. To expedite the process, we recommend that you contact your physician directly and let her/him know that you want to have an eConsultation. Once you schedule an appointment time on our site, we will contact your physician and set him/her up with the ability to hold an eConsultation with you. Your doctor can then use the eConsultation software and protocols to communicate with you from his or her office.

4. Will the conversations between the doctor and me be recorded?
As in the offline world, the conversations between you and the physician are private and confidential.

Both you and your consulting doctor, as long as they are your primary care physician, can choose to make notes before, during and after the eConsultation that will be uploaded to your online health chart in the My Health Chart section of eCureMe.com.
[Back to eConsult Live help]   [Back to main help]   [Home]

5. Will I receive a diagnosis?
If you schedule an appointment with your own primary care physician, they will be able to give you a diagnosis and prescribe a plan for treatment.

If you schedule and appointment with an eCureMe doctor, you will receive medical advice or an opinion, but you will not be provided with a diagnosis or a treatment plan until after you have been examined face-to-face.

Once a physical examination is completed, the doctor will be able to diagnose you, then follow up with you through our eConsult Live telemedicine services.

Please contact us if you would like to set up a face-to-face examination with an eCureMe physician at info@eCureMe.com.

Your doctor can best serve you when the telemedicine consultations are incorporated with actual office visits.

For more detailed information about diagnosing patients over the Internet, please refer to our Terms and Conditions section.
[Back to eConsult Live help]   [Back to main help]   [Home]

6. If I want to make an appointment with a physician, do they have to be my primary care physician?
You may schedule an appointment with any doctor of your choice - including your private physician and an eCureMe physician.

Both can provide you with medical advice or an opinion, but only your private physician can provide a diagnosis or treatment.

A physician can become your Primary Care Physician if they are licensed in the same state you live in, hold a face-to-face examination with you, and you transfer your medical records to them.
[Back to eConsult Live help]   [Back to main help]   [Home]

7. How can the physician provide me with medical advice or a diagnosis without actually having physical contact with me?
By letting the physician with whom you are holding a eConsultation know as much information about your condition and medical history as possible, the more accurately they will be able to assess your problems and health concerns.

If you are consulting with your Primary Care Physician, they will be able to recommend a treatment program, prescribe medication or refer you to a specialist.

If you are eConsulting with a physician who is not your PCP, they will only be able to provide you with medical advice or opinions.

We instruct all physicians who are providing eConsultations through our service to follow the telemedicine protocols outlined by the American Telemedicine Association.
[Back to eConsult Live help]   [Back to main help]   [Home]

8. How will the physician prescribe medication to me if I need it?
If your eConsultation is with your primary care physician, they will be able to simply call in your prescription to the pharmacy of your choice; but, you must work out the details with them. eCureMe physicians cannot prescribe a treatment plan or medication for you unless they are your primary care physician, which can only occur if they are in the same state as you and have examined you in person.

To schedule a physical examination with one of our doctors, please contact us at info@eCureMe.com.
[Back to eConsult Live help]   [Back to main help]   [Home]

9. Which countries/regions does this service cover?
Anyone, anywhere in the world can participate in an eConsultation.

If the consulting doctor does not practice in the same state you live in, they will only be able to provide you with medical advice or an opinion.

If you require treatment, medication, or a referral to a specialist, you must consult with a doctor who is practicing in the same state that you live in, and that doctor must be your Primary Care Physician.

Currently, all eCureMe Physicians are California-based. As physicians from outside of California join our medical group, we will be able to provide eConsultations with patients living in other parts of the United States.

[Back to technical help]   [Back to main help]   [Home]

[Back to technical help]   [Back to main help]   [Home]

Play Self-Diagnosis & Symptoms Games

The following is a guide to playing the Self-Diagnosis Game section of the site.

    1) You will be asked to pinpoint the part of your body where your problem or condition is
occurring by clicking on yellow tabs corresponding to various parts of the body model.
    2) Next, you will be asked to search, by alphabetical order, for your symptoms.
    3) After your symptoms are entered, you will be asked to sign in, and agree to the terms
        and conditions of the game.
    4) Once the game has helped you to pinpoint exactly where your problem is, it will
generate a series of questions relevant to that specific area of the body. You will be
asked to select "no" or "yes" or "unknown" in response to each question.
    5) Depending on your response, the game will generate a set of "Very Likely" "Likely"
and "Not Likely" diseases or conditions that you may be experiencing.
    6) The game will end with a final analysis that is generated once you’ve completed your
response to all of the "Very Likely" and/or "Likely" diseases and conditions.

The results of each game you play will be documented and placed into MY HEALTH CHART, your personal medical chart located in the eMy Health section of the site.
