Lymphatic dysplasia



  • This is fetal malformation of lymphatic vessels, usually around the head and neck.

  • A soft bulge beneath the skin in the head
    or neck.
  • It can be single or multiple.

  • It occurs when jugular lymph vessels are obstructed due to a lack of communication between the cervical lymphatic vessels and the jugular venous system.
  • These lymphatic vessels normally would drain freely into the jugular venous system.
  • It is usually associated with chromosomal anomalies such as monosomy X, trisomy 21, and Noonan syndrome.

  • Physical examination
  • Ultrasound scan

  • Small cysts may not require any treatment.
  • Laser treatment for mouth lesion
  • Surgical removal
  • An injection of attenuated bacteria (OK432) into cysts

  • Cyst infection
  • Internal bleeding into the cysts
