This is an inflammatory skin reaction around the diaper area, i.e., a type of irritant dermatitis.

- Red patch and scale in the entire area covered by the diaper
- Often with bulla, fissure, skin loss

- Friction irritation
- Chemical allergies (perfumes, soaps)
- Sweat

- Based on clinical findings
- A KOH preparation of skin scrapings to check for candidal diaper dermatitis

- Frequent changing of diapers
- Meticulous washing of the genitalia
- Application of ointments containing either petroleum jelly (e.g., Vaseline) or zinc oxide (e.g., Desitin)
- Topical hydrocortisone
- Topical antifungal ointments for candidal infection
- Topical antibiotic ointments for bacterial infection
