Benign breast tumor
|
|
- This is a benign (not cancerous) tumor of the breast, usually occurring in younger women in their late teens and early twenties, and twice as often in African-American women than Caucasian women.
- It is important that such tumors be biopsied and /or removed to make certain that they are not malignant (i.e., breast cancer).

- Lump that is round, firm, movable,
non-tender, and usually 1/2 inch to two inches in
diameter
|
|
- Mammography (breast X-rays)
- Fine-needle aspiration
|
|
- Surgical removal under local anesthesia
|
|
- Good, if the tumor doesn't become malignant
- It can enlarge with pregnancy and breastfeeding.
